it took me a long time to open up this review dvd and watch this film, and because of past studies on cults and the whys and hows; i already have a good understanding of them.
i am not a fan, nor am i of most of the organized respectable faiths either, but at least those congregations usually stay within legal parameters and offer their faithful some peace of mind and community tradition.. cults are different because they cross the lines of propriety.
they are renegades to society and basic human rights, mostly women and children, and are unified by their leaders hubris, hucksterism and sheer strength of mind power.

I would think that JWs seeing this film would feel that they are happy that they are not in a cult... So it may be hard for JWs to accept that they are in a damaging cult also. It may not be as overt as these false messiah-like sex-crazed cults, but we know that JWs are a cult nonetheless.

we all thought that this is the best, most accurate movie on this topic that we have ever seen.

The movie rocked!!!! Very accurate portrayal of JWs, with very few slight inaccuracies...
It was interesting that a large contingent of JWs went to see the movie, and we exJWs were able to converse with them. Even though they knew some of us were Dfd, they still were willing to listen to our dialogue. It's hard to shun someone after seeing that movie, since the negative consequences of shunning are so powerfully displayed.
BTW little chicken, do brothers in Scandinavia wear beards? Is that OK there?

Has anyone asked him how he knows that Jesus and Jehovah trust the FDS? Did he have a personal conversation with them?
I had a personal conversation with Jesus yesterday and he told me that he doesn't trust the FDS. And Jehovah told me the same thing last week. That's not fair that Jehovah and Jesus change their minds and now trust the FDS... Why didn't they tell me about the update? Maybe the GBs have a messenger account with God directly... that must be where the new light is c9oming from...
Well now we all know that the FDS provides the new light junk food to the domestics at the proper .

Of course, in the US the signs generally say "restroom"... Not that you want to take a rest in a stinky public bathroom...

I don't get it... Why are you so tough on HC? But get the facts right:
America won it's independence from Britain. HC is from Australia, which like America, won its independence from Britain. Or in your history book did America fight Australia for independence?

Yes I do believe JWs are wrong. I can prove it from the Bible. 1914, other sheep, adding Jehovah to scriptures in the NT, 1919, 1938-1944, JW interpretation is a load of BS.
This does create a conundrum... now that I no longer believe in the WTS explanation, what do I believe. I need time to decide what I will believe, so I can't answer that question. But my belief is that JWs do not have a monopoly on truth, as they proclaim they do. If they are wrong, and I am researching to decide what exactly I will believe, if I don't find another belief system nicely written out for me, it doesn't mean that I need to return to the JWs. I already know that they are wrong. I merely don't know who may be right.
I ask you this. Your very name "slimboyfat" is a contradiction. Are you slim, or are you fat? You can't be both at the same time.
So if the JWs are wrong, then they can't be right. or are they "rightJWwrong"?
Please don't take me wrong, I am not attacking you. I am merely making a point that if something is proved wrong to me, the lack of meaningful alternatives do not make it right.

from what my mom said, he really wants me there.
here's the situation so far.... i know my aunt/uncle/and cousins, along with my parents and half of my old kh that i grew up with will be there.
I would go and support your brother.... If your family gives you a hard time you need to learn to stand up to them. You have a right to believe what you wish and support who you wish. If they bug you about meetings you can say "hank you" and ignore them and move on. But show your brother that family is first.

But I don't speak Aussie... So what's the deal with Barbie? I saw your pic on another thread, and you have a resemblance with Barbie, I think... So what are Barbies in Aussie???
But don't get me wrong... I learned a few Aussie words from Paul Hogan and from Outback steakhouse...

every time i have raised the noolite on this, it is met with blank looks and no comment.. on the phone it has been met with silence while they wait to see why i am talking about it.. has anybody else noticed this - it is a trend that less and less witlesses discuss doctrines and teachings when socializing.. could it be that they don't want to acknowledge a creeping disernment that they have been strung along, and so the gibbering buddy can no more be trusted on this claim than all the other failures, or is it that they are afraid of being called apostos?.

well hello all....yes...i'm a newbie.... and yep...i am an inactive witness.
haven't been to a meeting in a while.
my entire family are witnesses, actually had a relative that proclaimed to be of the 144000...thats how deep....this is third generation witnesses here in this family.

We're happy you're here. I have just been here for about a month too, and I have receieved tons of support. As a former elder and Gilead trained missionary, my exit has occured over doctrine. I could no longer stomach hearing about 1914...
Think about it. How many Witnesses can explain the 1914 prophecy? It actually doesn't stand up to the light of scrutiny.
I suggest that you do some research.. some books like Crisis of Conscience and The Gentle Time Reconsidered are helpful.
Or you could check out Websites like www.jwfacts.com (created by a JWD poster in Australia).
Get the facts, and the fear will dissipate...
BTW my step-father is of the "anointed", and he has already begun to shun me although I'm not officially Dfd or DA yet!.
